What is the easiest way to apply for a grant as a business? I work for a dog training business and we are looking to start a school where we train rescue dogs for free. Is there a specific grant for that?
It’s not so easy to get grants. First off, the U.S. federal government typically doesn’t provide small business grants, except under very specific conditions, and usually in the fields of medicine and education. Most grants are available through states, non-profit organizations, and local agencies. Keep in mind these grants often come with conditions — like requiring you to match the amount of the grant with personal funds, or get a loan to supplement the grant. A good place to start is at Business.gov, which has a search tool that allows you to enter all your criteria — such as your location, your industry, and your line of business — and search through multiple sources to see what’s available. Be wary of offers to get you grants that require you to give someone money upfront — there is a lot of fraud activity in this area.
